Technical Team Leader, Berkshire £35k - £45k

Our client specialises in defence and security and requires a Team leader within the Windows Systems group, providing management and technical expertise to ensure delivery of tasks and commitments on time and to budget.

SECURITY CLEARANCE OR DEFENCESECURITY EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL

Please note: the successful applicant for this position will be required to go through the process for Developed Vetting Government Security Clearance. This requires all applicants to be British Passport Holders and have been resident in the country for at least 10 years. Please do not apply for this position if you cannot meet this criterion.

Location: Reading, Berkshire
Salary Range: £35,000 – £45,000 - dependent on experience

Key accountabilities
• Management of Windows Desktop Support team to deliver continuous improvement to
customers
• Technical authority to provide professional advice to design authority
• Solution development and delivery to identify needs
• Deliver technical solutions in conjunction with agreed project timescales

Responsibilities
• Line management of the Windows Desktop Support team, including:
o Team development and performance management to encourage service delivery and
innovation
o Mentoring of key technical staff to create an environment where successful professional
career path goals are achieved
o Assisting in the development of other members of the IT operational teams
o Identifying skills required and making sure high quality of teams are deployed
• Take the role of group leadership as required in managing all aspects of Windows

Systems enhancements
• Review operational status reports
• Take prompt & effective action in resolving issues in timely manner
• Enforce standard IT policies and procedures with customers
• Deputise as a technical authority tin providing professional advice on Microsoft, server
virtualisation and storage technologies
• Make recommendation for future direction on emerging technologies
• Solution development and delivery:
o Willing to undertake a role as a technical expert representative across teams,
Information technology industry and clients
o Consults alternative technical solutions to fulfil client requirements with greater
efficiency, and/or with greater reusability, and/or longer life
o Manages several technical teams within budget & project schedule
• Maintain knowledge and application of current industry trends and practices
• Promotes and drives technical knowledge and skills sharing within the organisation
• Ensure understanding & application of responsibilities with regard to the Company’s
Environment, Health, Safety, Security & Quality Standards

Qualifications
• Degree or good formal qualification in from one of the following technical disciplines:
Electronics, Communications or Computing, succeeded by proven experience in people
management
• Membership of the British Computer Society is preferred

Knowledge
• Proven knowledge of the following:
o Current Microsoft technologies
o Server virtualisation technologies
o Storage technologies and infrastructure requirements
o Complex database concepts and assists in establishing standards applied across project
teams
o Client/server and internet systems architectures and assists in establishing standards
applied across project teams
o Browser/client specific compatibility issues
o Project Delivery methodologies

Experience
• Considerable experience managing teams engaged in delivering short to medium term
technical projects through all stages of the project life cycle
• Facilitating direct complex projects from concept to fully operational status including
handover to support and user training
• Proven ability to work in unity with senior managers, consultants, third party suppliers,
including technical managers as well as technical staff and contractors from a multitude
of disciplines
• Definite experience of managing large teams
• Hands-on implementation experience, notably gained with a supplier or in a service
section of a large organisation

Skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with customers
• Excellent ability to identify requirements and evaluate alternative technical solutions and
strategies
• Considerable experience with PC skills associated with proprietary software such as
databases, word, spreadsheets and other Business System Software applications
• Demonstrate planning skills to meet challenging deadlines and expectations
• Ability to handle pressurised situations directly, using appropriate discretion, HR advice,
and respect for the individual

Special Requirements
• Willingness to travel both within the UK and overseas
• Willing to take part in an on-call schedule to offer emergency and safety cover
