Responsibilities:
• Provide technical support to Network Operations staff on terrestrial network to aid in faultfinding and service restoration
• Test and commissioning of new equipment to support the skynet 5 network
• Provide support to Service planning staff to determine optimum routing and connectivity through network
• Monitor network performance to identify and pre-empt capacity bottlenecks or connectivity difficulties
• Liaise with external network engineers and user technical staff to assist in service interruption resolution
• Develop and maintain network operations technical documentation
• Configuration of Cisco Routers, Meridian voice switches, Volcality muxes, and Nortel Passports together with satellite modems and RF required.
• Use and configuration of Cryptos
• Provide 24/7 on call technical support on a rotation basis within the team.

Qualifications and/or Skills
Essential:
• Data Communications Engineering or other relevant qualifications.
• Knowledge of ATM, TCP/IP as well as synchronous and asynchronous communications protocols and Nortel Passport and similar switch equipment.

Desirable:
• Knowledge of satellite communications systems.
• System engineering experience an advantage.

Previous Experience
Essential:
• Work in engineering support role, field service engineer

Desirable:
• Previous work experience within 1001SU, or associated organisations including DEI.
• Knowledge of UK Military Satellite Communications System
