Senior Network System Engineer, Hertfordshire £30k - £45k
***SC Level Government Security Clearance is required for this role***
The successful candidate will be joining as a member of New Service Engineering team, responsible for the systems design of new managed, end to end telecoms services and the introductory support as necessary.
Responsible for:
• Design & Implementation of controllable SatCom Telecoms new services which can be efficiently and profitably supported by the relevant Operations teams
• Proactive execution for the integration, verification, and commissioning/acceptance phases
• Ensure that new services can be supported and managed through their life cycle to optimise the business case for each project
Primary Duties:
New Service & System:
• Design
• Integration
• Validation & Verification
• Commissioning/acceptance support
• Documentation: both external Assurance and Internal Service
• Support
Essential Competencies:
• Ability to identify services and decompose to real system/sub-system specifications
• Proven track record of hands on network implementation
• Ability to trade-off capacity, latency, availability, QOS & Through-Life Cost-of-Service (COS) RF/MM-wave Systems including Antennas and propagation Modems (QAM)
Networking:
• IP, TDMA & Serial Product development - mechanical, thermal, EMC
• Excellent communicator at a verbal and written level
• Excellent inter-personal skills
• Good personal time-management and prioritisation skills
• Good Problem Solving Skills
• Business Proficiency - ability to cost model for through-life costs of service
• Commercial Proficiency – assisting the Commercial Department to prepare Non Disclosure Agreements, patents and sub-contract developments etc
Desirable Competencies:
• SatCom
• Cryptographic devices and related Security issues
• DVB-RCS and/or iDirect IP-over-Satellite systems
• ATM Networking
• VoIP
• Business skills
• Understanding of sub-tended networks and concerns which might arise
• Good Project Management skills
Essential Training Requirements:
• Engineering graduate with at least a good second class degree, or equivalent
• At least five years industrial experience, with at least three years as a network systems engineer
Detailed technical knowledge, and first-hand experience of, at least four of the following:
• MM-Wave & RF/Antennas/Propagation
• RF Systems
• IF/ADC/DAC up to and including MAC Layer & DSP
• Wired Data Networks from Hardware/Systems
• Crypto/Security
• Packet switched Networking
• Circuit switched Voice Networks & VoIP
• Power systems including a safety and EMC perspective
• Mechanical & Thermal Systems
• Embedded & Real time Software with hardware high-speed digital awareness
• Distributed Network Management, Databases & Billing
• Network configuration control and network health/optimization
Desirable Training Requirements:
• Cisco Certified Training (CCNA or above)
• CEng. and/or Eur. Ing
