Job Title: Satellite Control Centre (SCC) System Administrator
Location: Corsham in Wiltshire
Salary: £35k - £40k and excellent benefits package

Job Definition:
• We are looking for a new member of a 24/7 support team for a satellite control centre.
• You will be a strong team player, and will provide support to the SCC (Satellite Control Centre) Systems Manager (SSM) for the daily management of satellite control centre.

Key tasks & responsibilities:
• Daily support for the satellite control centre systems, including ability to re-start both software and hardware subsystems to recover from failures
• Investigation and rectification of issues and system problems raised through internal tracking processes.
• Perform general PC and server configuration and maintenance activities including equipment swap-out, reconfiguration and restoration focusing mainly on Solaris support.
• Perform routine data and software backup and archiving activities
• Management of user accounts on the Windows and Unix based systems.
• Provide ad-hoc support to SCC Database Manager in order to implement updates on spacecraft databases.
• Ensure all changes to the system are implemented in accordance with internal configuration management procedures.
• Maintain regular contact with customer regarding issue investigation & fault rectification.
• Share mutually beneficial information with and seek assistance from colleagues in the SCOF Engineering team.

Skills and Experience:
• Ideally we are looking for a candidate with 3 - 4 years experience in a system support role.
• The ideal candidate will have strong technical and interpersonal skills, good oral and written presentation skills, and will thrive in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
• The right candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of supporting high availability systems, with a focus on Solaris/Unix hardware and software.

Hardware/Software experience:
• Essential: Unix skills, Solaris 8 or higher (Essential).
• Desirable: Windows 2000/2003/SE, MS Office, Access, Exceed, Symantec Anti-Virus, Dos, Active Directory, Fundamentals of client/server architecture, Internet Explorer, Java, C++, Oracle, SQL, NAS, Firewalls.

Previous Qualifications/Accreditations:
• Experience at 2nd line support.
